Just a quick post to let you know, if you haven’t already seen, that v1.1.0 of VMware’s vSphere iPad application has been released and is now available for download/update on the Apple App Store.  This update to the iPad app is about bug fixes, providing a few tweaks and adding a handful of minor (though good to have) improvements.  One important point of note is that this new version of the app requires that you download and use the latest version of the backend vCMA server (v1.1) appliance which can downloaded here: http://labs.vmware.com/flings/vcma.

The following is a list of what is new in version 1.1.0:

- Support for connecting directly to a vSphere host (resolves Null Pointer Exception)
- Integrated interface to input vCMA server settings and login credentials
- Enhanced version compatibility checks between vSphere iPad application and vCMA server
- Fix for Null Pointer Exception when rebooting a host while the host was in maintenance mode
- Store password, if requested by the user, in the keychain
- Ability to properly scroll the host list in landscape mode
- Sorted host list (by name and grouped by vendor ID)
- Display center ellipsis for long virtual machine names
- Better performance metrics when connecting directly to a vSphere host
- Show “Unavailable” or “PoweredOff” message when unable to obtain performance data for a selected VM
- Reflect available actions correctly, for a selected VM, when an operation was completed
- Ability to cancel ‘revert to snapshot’ action

If you haven’t tried out the iPad app I recommend you give it a try, as you’d expect it’s not a fully functional replacement for the vSphere Client itself though is a convenient way to perform basic tasks and to view the status of your vSphere environment.  From the list of new features and improvements found in v1.1.0 of the iPad app you can definitely see that over time and subsequent updates it will become a much more valued tool in the management and monitoring of production environments.
