Stu over at VInternals recently published an interesting article close to my heart. The article is around the amount of sensors (or lack of) presented to VMware ESXi from HP servers.
I don’t want to spoil your read of the article but basically Dell servers present significantly more environmental items able to be monitored than those of an HP server, even a very recent blade such as the HP BL495c virtualization blade (see VInternal’s article for screenshots).
So what gives? The article gives some thoughts behind why this maybe the case. Anyway go and check it out and the comment thread below.
Also let me know what you think about this and what your experiences are with sensor information in VMware ESXi from other server hardware vendors.

Below: A screen shot of my own from a HP Proliant ML110 G5. As you can see not much out in the way of sensor information is displayed even from this entry level server. You’d expect more from a BL495c blade server though – which surprisingly only displays roughly the same amount of information.![]()
