I'm having exactly the same problem. When I saw the post I updated to v4.1, that didn't work, reinstalled with v4.0 U1, that doesn't work. Tried adding an additional DVD sata, no luck with this either.

Any help would be much appreciated.

I haven't proxy. My conection to Internet is direct.

Any ideas about it?

Thanks, I did find this utility after I had already incorrectly updated my USB drive using the ESXi 4.0 U1 install CD (during which I lost all of my settings).

When you are installing the vSphere client, the Host Update utility is a little misleading when it only mentions upgrading from 3.x to 4.0.

Good luck to anyone else upgrading.

If it's ESXi - vSphere Host Update utility, installing it is an option when you install vSphere Client.
