VMware ESXi 4.0 Update 1 (U1) Fixes SATA CD/DVD-ROM Issue With HP Proliant ML115 G5

# VMware

Thanks to James Pearce for pointing out this VMware forum post from J1mbo who mentions that the ACHI SATA pass-through issue that has been plaguing us HP Proliant ML115 G5 owners since VMware ESX/ESXi v3.5 U3 days has now been resolved with the 4.0 Update 1 (U1) release.

HP ML115 VMware ESX Update 1 With this release (4.0 U1) guest VMs running on an ML115 ESX/ESXi host should now successfully be able to connect to the hosts local CD/DVD-ROM drive.

I unfortunately haven’t had time to upgrade my home lab to ESXi Update 1 since it’s release so an unable to confirm though am hoping to get some spare time this weekend.  :)

I hadn’t noticed this issue – pass through CD? .iso all the way for VMs :)

If it’s ESXi – vSphere Host Update utility, installing it is an option when you install vSphere Client.

Thanks, I did find this utility after I had already incorrectly updated my USB drive using the ESXi 4.0 U1 install CD (during which I lost all of my settings).

When you are installing the vSphere client, the Host Update utility is a little misleading when it only mentions upgrading from 3.x to 4.0.

Good luck to anyone else upgrading.

When I try to update my ESXi 4.0 Host with the Host update utility i obtain the next message: “An error has ocurred. Download failed”.

I haven’t proxy. My conection to Internet is direct.

    Any ideas about it?

    Thanks in advance
