VMwareWolf.com who works on VMware’s Technical Support Team has highlighted a potential issue with ESX U3 disconnecting from the VirtualCenter under the following reported instances:
- ESX disconnects randomly from Virtualcenter
- ESX disconnects when performing VI Client tasks from Virtualcenter.
- Tasks randomly timeout after a long idle time
- "An error occurred communicating to the remote host" pops up.
He is raising a VMware Knowledge Base article regarding this which apparently should be out soon. Check out his blog posting here for more details.

I raised this with VMware back in early 2008 and nothing has changed since – people keep telling me that something is going to happen but still no bug fixes…

Hi Martin,
There was a recent VMware ESX KB article where one of the symptoms was where ESX or ESXi would become disconnected from VirtualCenter. Disconnection of ESX(i) from the LUN was also a potential symptom outlined. If this sounds similar to what you’re experiencing then definately check out this article here:

Hope this helps,
Si
