I loaded ESXi 4.0.0 onto a new ML115 g5 quad, with virtualisation support turned on, single 160GB HDD and 2GB ram, it was looking good…

….I rebooted and watched the system start, but then 20 seconds after the console loaded I got a PSOD !

System halted with #pf Exception (14) in world 9111:sfcbd ip 0x041800e…

last instruction at that address was smbios_get_64bit_cru_info

What could it all mean ?

I see the g5 has an imperfect reputation when it comes to ESXi 4 but no one else seems to have posted the same experience – what do you know, learned guru ?

cheers

Hi Nick,

Apologies for the delay in replying to your query.  It's been kinda crazy around these parts recently and I'm madly playing catchup.

Although you haven't directly mentioned it I am guessing from the error message you are getting that you have downloaded and installed the HP version of ESXi.

As you may know this version comes with the HP Management Agents installed which unfortuantely the HP Proliant 100 series, including the ML115 does not work with.

Make sure you use the standard (non vendor specific) version of ESXi 4.0 as this shouldn't have any problems with the ML115 G5.

Hope this helps and let us know how you get on.

Cheers,

Simon
