Cisco to bring blade server to market as early as March 2009?

General

Following up on my previous posting here, it appears that the rumblings over Cisco producing a server offering shortly (maybe as early as March 09) are getting louder.  This server offering will almost most likely take the form of blade servers running some form (most likely VMware based (ESX?)) of virtualization software .

This will obviously start stepping on some of Cisco’s long term partners such as heavy hitters HP, Dell and IBM.  Cisco are very well placed for bringing such a server product to market especially with the significant trend towards using virtualization technologies in the datacentre.

Check out this article in the New York times for the full story.

  1. Our CTO, Padmasree Warrior, wrote a blog piece yesterday on “unified computing” which states, in part: “Lately, there has been a lot of speculation by the technorati that “something is going on over at Cisco!” I am sure you have all read the blogs and reports in traditional media asserting that Cisco is going to enter new markets, compete for new business, and build new products. The answer? Yes, Yes and Yes, of course!”
