the link to the memory didn’t seem to work for me, so went searching on OCuk and found it that way. One thing that puzzles me, does the ML110 G5 server take Non-ECC memory??
[Reply]
Hi Martin,
Hmmm, not sure on the link as I’ve just tried it and it is working ok for me.
That’s a good point about the preferred memory type for the ML110 G5. The quick spec for the server mentions “Unbuffered ECC” though I am running non-ECC memory quite happily in it.
Hope this helps.
All the Best,
Simon

Hi Simon,
Have you made a type on the price?
The site shows it’s £39.99 ex VAT which is £46.99 inc VAT
Or is there a promo code to get it for £39.94 inc VAT?
Cheers

Hi Sony,
I’ve just checked and it appears that the special price OverClockers were offering has finished and the price is now £46.99 inc VAT for this module kit.
I’ll drop them and line and see if they would do TechHead readers a special deal on them.
I’ll let you all know if they do.
Cheers,
Simon

Hi Rog,
Thanks for the link. This is good RAM also although I found it didn’t work in my ML110 G4 though it works in my ML110 G5 just fine.
Cheers,
Simon

nice one Rog, they pimped
Si, would you recommend the Corsair or the OCZ for the ML115 G5 ?
Cheers

Sony – I went for the Corsair in the end (Oveclockers had it on offer again) and my trio of ML115 G5’s seem happy with it.

Sony,
Between you, myself and Si we could start our own datacentre!
What started as a cheap test lab – with servers costing under £90 has ended up being a slightly more expensive project
(I’ve spent more on additional NICs than I did on the boxes themselves)
It will all be worth it though – I’m on the install and configure course next week with Magirus and I can’t wait to put my lab into proper use.

Hi Julian,
I run Corsair XMS2 6400 memory in my ML115 G5 and it works all ok.
What Corsair kit did you buy (ie: memory speed, etc) and what error/symptoms are you getting?
Cheers,
Si
[Reply]
Kiwi Si,
thanks for your prompt reply
I bought Corsair XMS2 4GB (2×2GB) DDR2 PC2-6400C5 TwinX Dual Channel (TWIN2X4096-6400C5) from this link http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-136-CS
Errors/Symptoms:
The screen doesn’t come up and
I hear a series of beeps from the system speaker,
also a green LED on the mainboard is flashing (might be a normal behaviour but thought it might help)
cheers
[Reply]
I can’t help much other than to say I think the flashing LED is normal – mine also does this and is working fine.

Hi,
Was there ever a resolution to this? I have the same issue!
Thanks
[Reply]
I didn’t find any…
ended up buying a ecc kit @ crucial
I still have got those non-ecc sticks though, so if you need them just drop me a line here

This is really strange as I have three of these Corsair memory kits and am still running them without any problems in both of my ML115 G5’s and ML110 G5. I also know of others who are doing the same.
I swapped them around this evening – just to make sure and couldn’t replicate the problems you were describing.
I am just wondering if there has been a bad batch of memory or similar. Also, out of interest what firmware revision are you running on your ML115 G5 and is it the Dual core or the later Quad core model?
Thanks for letting me know – I will update the post to make others aware of this potential issue.
Si

sorry guys, should have written it here

PhilS, I used the tool on their website to find the right ones
I’m away on holidays right now so I’m not able to check it for you but in the order history is says “CT907746 Upgrade for a HP – Compaq ProLiant ML115 G5 System” and “2-2GB 240-PIN 256Mx72 DDR2 PC2-6400
UNBUFF CL6″ (the invoice)
hope this helps
Kiwi Si, I’m pretty sure I did try swapping them, didn’t make any difference
It’s the quad-core model, I didn’t try updating the firmware, I can’t check the version at the mo as I’m away, will do when I’m back home (around the 15th Jun)
cheers

This is just my opinion; but never buy from Overclockers. Unless they’ve seriously changed, they have to be the worst company I’ve ever bought from online, and I’ve bought tons of stuff in the last 10 years or more. They aren’t even the cheapest. There are plenty of disgruntled ex-customers that will never go back; all of my friends stopped shopping there a long time ago because of their shoddy service/customer support.
Again, all my own opinion; feel free to ignore.
Cheers,
Nick

Hi,
Time to open this odl thread up again. I haev a question abaout memory for a ML115 G5. I have got quite a alot of memory for free and wanted to know if they will work with the ML115 G5. The memory is HP 499276-061 and the spec looks good except that its fully buffered. Can I use them even if the server spec says un-buffered memory?

Martin

Hi Martin, unfortunately the machines need unbuffered RAM. Some have had success with non-ECC modules, but ideally ECC unbufferred is the way to go. Registered RAM is for higher density configurations.

Ok, thats what i thought. Thanks for clearing this up for me! I will order a bunch of unbuffered ECC modules insted. Thanks again!

Hi Martin,
As James points out Buffered DIMMs are the order of the day for all HP ML110 and ML115’s. It’s a shame really as I too have a large amount of buffered ECC DIMMs lying around.
You’ve probably noticed that the price of DDR2 DIMMs has increased with the event of DDR3 becoming more mainstream though I did notice that EBuyer did have a good price on 2GB DDR2-6400 DIMMs at the moment – see here for more details: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/142399
Cheers,
Simon

I ended up buying the following memory from Kingston and it works well: Valueram/4GB 800MHz DDR2 ECC CL5 DIMM (Kit of 2) (KVR800D2E5K2/4G)
Thanks for the help guys!

Wow, good find Tealer.
I’ve just picked up 8GB – in theory it should work all ok in the ML110/ML115 G5. Fingers crossed.
