VMworld 2012 – Still a long way off but…

VMware

Ok, so it’s a little way off though the speed at which time seems to fly these days VMworld will be soon upon us once again.  As you have probably heard already there are changes to the location of both the US and European based VMworld events.  The US based VMworld is returning once again to the Moscone Conference Centre in San Francisco and the European based VMworld from Copenhagen to Barcelona.  Here are more details around the location & dates:

  • VMworld San Francisco: 27th – 30th August 2012
  • VMworld Barcelona: 16th-18th October 2012

I hope to make to it one or both of the VMworld events this year and am glad to see it returning to San Francisco (City has a great atmosphere) and moving to Barcelona (Copenhagen was a nice place but sooooo expensive).

VMworld Copenhagen 2011 – Discount Code

VMware

Here’s a quick post with a discount code for those of you thinking of attending VMworld Copenhagen this year (2011) at the last minute.  EMC are offering a sponsored discount, even for last minute registrations.  To take advantage of this discount code click on this link (or image below) to be taken to the VMworld registration site which will apply this discount for you.

How much discount is offered I hear you ask?  Well, vTardis King, Simon Gallagher, reports here that after using the discount code a VMworld conference pass came out to about £683 – not bad indeed!

So if you are still deliberating whether to send yourself to VMworld Copenhagen this may be the persuasion you need.  Smile

VMworld 2011 – Call for papers ending soon

VMware

Just a quick reminder to you all that the VMworld 2011 Call for Papers is ending soon (5th April)!  If you’ve ever fancied presenting a session on a VMware related topic close to your heart then this is a fantastic opportunity.  I was fortunate enough to have presented with Eric Siebert and Simon Gallagher at last year’s VMworld San Francisco event and thoroughly enjoyed the experience so I can definitely recommend it.  If your interested and want to be considered to present at VMworld 2011 then make sure you submit your proposal before the 5th April submission deadline.

An Inside Look – EMC Hands on Labs Environment

EMC VMware

Here’s one for all you vSphere lab fans out there… During the recent VMworld Europe event in Copenhagen I took some time to speak with my fellow vSpecialist colleague Chris Horn (@Horn_Chris) who, along with his team, put together the highly successful EMC hands on labs environment for this and the VMware San Francisco and Cisco Live events.  I know from working along side Chris and others at both VMworld events this year that the hands on lab format was very popular with attendees indeed.  It was clear that people liked getting their hands on the products and actually getting hands on time with them out rather than being bombarded with conference marketing fluff and glossy colour brochures.

As you’ll see from the video (below) the EMC hands on lab environment presented the attendees Hands on Labswith a number of labs to work through, each of which covered one of EMC’s products or technology sets.  The hands on lab platform ran on VMware vSphere.  The labs included:

Attendees could do one or as many of these different labs that was of interest or that they had time to do.  We actually had some people sit down for a couple of hours to work through the all of the labs – impressive!

The labs environment was run on VMware vSphere using the following hardware:

Compute:

Storage:

Other:

Network:

So if you appreciate a good lab setup and want to find out more about the lab and how it is configured then you will enjoy the video (above).

Thanks for Chris for taking the time to run through the lab environment – great guy to work with!

A Conversation with Mike Laverick–VMworld Copenhagen 2010

VMware

Whilst at VMworld Copenhagen 2010 I had the opportunity to catch up with Mr SRM, Mike Laverick. Mike is a well known VMware SRM and vSphere author and also runs the RTFM website, a good source of VMware information.

I always enjoy a good chat with Mike and this time we spoke on a range of subjects including Mike’s conference swag bag raffle, the iPad, Twitter at VMworld, social media connectivity utils and the ability via social media to now be able to communicate with those at the top of big business & of course at topic near and dear to Mike, VMware SRM.

Check out the video of our conversation below and I also recommend visiting Mike’s RTFM site here.
