EMC Live Webcasts–June 2011

EMC

Thought I’d pass this on… I just had an internal email through notifying of the EMC Live Webcasts for all things EMC & VMware (with a little Vblock thrown in for good measure) for June 2011.  There are usually some really interesting sessions for EMC and non-EMC customers alike who are looking at or have already started virtualizing, particularly with VMware.  A personal favourite of mine is Chad’s Choice which this month falls on the 30th – always informative with plenty of techy info.

If this sounds like it could be of interest check out the full schedule here.

White Paper: Running VMware vSphere on an EMC VNXe 3100

EMC VMware

Here’s a white paper that I came across in my travels whilst at work that I thought may be of interest to those of you wanting to find out more about running VMware vSphere on the recently released EMC VNXe 3100 storage appliance.   The VNXe is EMC’s new range of entry level storage appliances which are targeted at the SMB and remote office market.  The VNXe is EMC VNXe White Papercertified ‘VMware Ready’ and is an ideal candidate for small virtualization environments (vSphere or Hyper-V) or for larger businesses wanting storage for branch or remote offices, check out my post here for more information.

I found the white paper to be an interesting easy going read with an architectural three node VMware vSphere 4.1 and single VNXe 3100 example complete with performance results.

EMC VNXe Storage Provisioning, Snapshot & Replication Demo

EMC

During the recent VMware Partner Exchange (PEX 2011) I finally managed to get my hands on the newly released EMC VNXe storage appliance.  First impressions are that it is a good looking capable unit which will no doubt prove to be popular in both the SMB and Enterprise remote office space.  There was certainly a lot of interest and buzz around it on the EMC stand (where I was helping out) during the PEX event so I’m sure it’ll be a popular offering in EMC’s storage portfolio. It’s new management interface (Unisphere) is definitely intuitive and when combined with the built in wizards makes it very easy to use which is what is needed if this unit is to be used in the SMB space.  One other thing is that it may look small, and it is, but geeez is this thing heavy when loaded with disk!

EMC VNXe - VMware vSphere Provisioning Storage

To demonstrate the ease of VMware vSphere storage provisioning, snapshot and replication on the VNXe I asked David Henry from the EMC VMware affinity team to takes us through the steps involved in the VNXe’s Unisphere web interface.  I think you’ll agree it’s real straight forward and intuitive stuff.  Now I just have to figure out who to get a VNXe for my work/home vSphere lab.  Smile

Webcast Recording – Install & Run the EMC Celerra Virtual Storage Appliance (VSA)

EMC VMware

I recently presented a webcast entitled “Install & Run the EMC Celerra Virtual Storage Appliance”.  This was great fun to present and was well attended with 165+ viewers.  In this webcast I covered the topic of installing, configuring and running an EMC Celerra Virtual Storage Appliance (VSA) with background on how the Celerra hangs together and a demonstration of how easy  it is to get the Celerra VSA up and running, complete with a basic Linux VM being served from it.

EMC Celerra VSA webcastAfter the webcast I have been asked by a number of people who were unable to make the presentation whether a recording of the webcast would be made available.  So I’m pleased to say that a recording was made and find below a link to this webcast’s recording along with a downloadable copy of the slide deck I put together and used.

I hope you find this material of use and don’t forget to get in touch with any questions and to also check out my recent blog posts on the EMC Celerra VSA here (other posts to follow):

Hope you find this of use and don’t forget to get in touch with any questions.  I will have the remaining blog posts around the EMC Celerra VSA in the coming couple of weeks so keep checking back.  Smile
