Hi Monty, That is a bit weird regarding the configuration settings not being saved back to the USB key. Have you checked that the 'Read Only' switch hasn't been set on the outside of they key? Another scenario where I've seen settings not being saved back down to the USB key is when incorrect network gateway settings are specified. This VMware forum also mentions something similar: http://communities.vmware.com/message/1143850#1143850

Cheers, Si

Hi Dougie, You can have have vSphere (ESXi 4.0) run from a USB stick. Check out my article here for more details - it's for ESXi 3.5 though it still applies to 4.0.

Hope this helps,

hi, i've 2xML115G5 with the Opteron cpu and 8gb RAM each...i was able to get ESXi4 onto a USB stick, but any settings saved whilst it was running where not saved back onto the USB stick.

so just reverted to using the built in sata controller, and installed...everything was fine. works well.

when i get time, i'll test out the FT features and report back, i just need to get an uncorrupted download of esx4...everytime it fails!
